UNSOLICITED ADVICE
LIFE THINGS & OLDER SIS ADVICE FROM SOMEONE WHO LOVES YAPPING & METAPHORS
I’ve encountered my fair share of advice—some of it genuinely helpful, and some incredibly hurtful. One thing I’ve realized, though, is that unsolicited advice almost always earns an internal eye roll from me. Why? Because it’s often delivered in a way that feels self-serving or like an attempt to redirect the conversation back to the giver—even when it doesn’t remotely apply to what I’ve been venting abou
That said, this mini-series on my blog is my way of rebranding unsolicited advice. It’s a space to explore some of the worst advice I’ve received, uncover the lessons I may have missed (yes, even bitterness has its blind spots), and offer my own advice—but with an emphasis on structure, intention, and genuine care. I’ll share thoughts on topics like singleness, dating, and breakups… celebrating "small" milestones… the importance of learning to do things alone… and so much more.
Of course, all advice is shaped by life experiences and personality, so to help you get to know me better, here are a few brutally honest truths that color my perspective:
I’m strongly motivated by regret. The fear of wishing I had—or hadn’t—done something drives many of my decisions.
I’m a Christian, but I often challenge common practices and advice from this community. Specifically, I question perspectives on women’s roles and dating.
I’m the oldest daughter (of an oldest daughter, of an oldest daughter). Needless to say, that fact has deeply influenced my perspectives.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE RECEIVED
There’s an important difference between right & wrong decisions AND right & left decisions. Sometimes, when you’re at a crossroads and need to make a choice, it’s hard because you’re not deciding between what’s right/wrong for your life…but between two (or more) paths that could be equally “right”. Learning how to discern the difference is key in finding peace in decision making.
